Hair Loss Treatment : Hair Loss and Supplements

"For us normal folks in our 30's, 40's, even 50's, who are just starting to notice our thinning hair, what preventative measures or supplementation can we take to minimize hair loss?"

It wasn't until his mid-fifties that my father started losing his hair. I remember the boxes of lotions, creams, heating massage pads that kept coming to his house (much to my stepmother's chagrin). But his hairline kept receding and a decade later, only a well-greased tuft remained on the crown of his head.

Genetics had a lot to do with his situation. My older brother, almost 60 now, is showing the same pattern of thinning hair. But, unlike my father, he has a lot more treatment options at his disposal.

Causes for hair loss can run the gamut from genetics, medical treatments like chemotherapy, skin eczema or allergies, excessive stress, poor nutrition, hormonal changes like menopause and "andropause", under-active thyroid, immune disorders to trichotillomania, a psychological disorder in which people are compelled to pull out their hair. A study in England has also shown a direct connection between smoking and hair loss. It also showed that smokers were 4 times more likely to have gray hair than non-smokers.

Some conditions can be treated medically through drugs like minoxidil and corticosteroids. Others might require something more drastic, like follicular hair transplant, a form of surgical hair restoration that does provide lasting benefits. The cost, however, can be prohibitive.

But for us normal folks in our 30's, 40's, even 50's, who are just starting to notice our thinning hair, what preventative measures or supplementation can we take to minimize hair loss?

Because healthy hair is dependent on the health of the scalp (hair requires a plentiful supply of nutrient-rich blood to nourish the hair follicles in the scalp) it makes sense that eating nutritionally balanced meals will promote healthy follicles and healthy hair growth. In a recent interview, Dr. Shari Lieberman Ph.D CNS, a nutrition scientist and exercise physiologist at the University of Bridgeport, CT, claims that crash diets have been responsible for many cases of hair loss: "I'm seeing a lot of women not eating enough protein. A lot of them are eating vegetables; they're eating carbs. They've really gone off a lot of protein and sometimes I'll see hair loss in women for that."

There is no doubt that a daily diet rich in protein, good carbs and essential fats is important for hair health. Hair is very sensitive to vitamin or mineral imbalances in the body. A flaky scalp can be caused by too little vitamin A; however, too much vitamin A can also bring about hair loss. Supplements, when taken on a consistent basis, at the average or standard dosage suggested below or at a dosage recommended by your physician, can be a strong deterrent to premature hair loss. Consider the following:

a) Evening Primrose Oil and Flaxseed Oil. Both of these are rich in omega-3 fatty acids which are essential for strong, healthy hair. Evening primrose oil contains a special fat called gamma-linolenic acid( GLA) which the body converts to hormonelike compounds called prostaglandins. The GLA in evening primrose oil is directly converted to anti-inflammatory prostaglandins which are effective against eczema and skin allergies. Taking evening primrose oil (1000mg 3 times a day) will prevent hair loss that is caused by excess flaking and shedding of skin on the scalp.

b) Flaxseed Oil (14 g a day) provides substances called lignans which may help fight cancer, bacteria, viruses and fungi. Flaxseed oil boosts the health of hair and nail and speeds the healing of scalp lesions that may contribute to hair loss. A recent study involving 10 men between the ages of 20 and 70 in varying stages of male pattern baldness ( AGA) showed that 8 of the subjects reported modest improvement of their hair loss condition, one reported much improvement and one subject reported no effect. Throughout the study, the daily numbers of hair loss decreased and 50 percent of the subjects noticed a decrease in oil secretion in their scalp.

c) Zinc (30mg) can boost thyroid function and reduce hair loss that comes from an underactive thyroid. Zinc must be taken with its companion Copper (2 mg a day) in order to maintain proper mineral balance in the body. Copper also contains melanin, the pigment that colors hair and skin and can help reverse or delay premature graying. Zinc can also affect the levels of androgens, the hormones involved in some form of genetic hair loss.

d) Biotin (1000 mcg a day) and Vitamin B-50 Complex (1 tablet twice a day) can also reduce the oiliness and flakiness of the scalp and strengthen the condition of the hair.

Other preventative procedures could include a weekly scalp massage to stimulate blood flow and reduce stress which can contribute to hair loss, wearing a hat to protect hair and scalp from sun damage and avoiding abrasive hair treatment like permanents or coloring.

Many people feel that the problem of hair loss cannot be solved with the help of hair loss treatment products. They often get frustrated after spending too much money on ineffective hair loss remedies and their side effects with no positive results at all. In reality, hair loss treatment can be divided in two categories: Natural hair loss treatments and chemical treatments.

This is one of the best hair loss treatment products.

Henna
Henna is a traditional Indian herb, which is a good natural conditioner and works great as hair loss treatment product. It heals hair shaft by sealing the cuticle and repairing, stops breakage and restores the silky-shiny effect of your hair.

Capsicum – It stimulates hair growth by 50% and increases flow of blood to the scalp. This herb is effective in preventing hair loss.

Hair Loss Ideas - Hair Loss - Tips for Success

Hair Loss Ideas - Hair Loss - Tips for Success
Hair Loss Tips for Success
"Learn how to get the most out of any hair loss product.  By following these simple guidelines, you can make any hair loss treatment more effective."

Keywords: hair loss, rogaine, propecia, male pattern baldness

Billions of dollars will be spent on hair loss solutions this year. Much of this money will go to waste. Ineffective products and misleading advertising are only partially to blame.  Many consumers are not using these hair loss products in an effective way. Fortunately there are a few simple ways that consumers can increase their chance of success. Following these guidelines will ensure that your money does not go to waste:

Start a Journal

People usually try several different hair loss products before they find something that works for them. Many use two or more products simultaneously. Keeping track of all this information can be frustrating and difficult. The best way to figure out what is working is to keep a journal detailing your progress. You should record all relevant information about the treatment process: when you started, the dosage, cost, and any side effects you experience. This documentation will tell you which products are effective, which ones are not, and allow you to make changes as you see fit.

Take Pictures

Noticing small changes in your hairline over time is extremely difficult. Taking pictures on a regular basis is the most effective ways to track your progress. Always photograph your head from the same angle, in similar lighting conditions. Use a digital camera for best results, most will automatically record the date and time for you. When combined with a treatment journal, these photos provide an invaluable tool that will allow you to judge the effectiveness of products you use.

Do Your Homework

The Internet is flooded with products claiming to cure and treat hair loss. Finding out which ones are legitimate can be a difficult task. When researching products online, beware of those that sound too good to be true. If the company has before and after pictures, examine them closely. If the images were shot from different angles, or in different lighting, be suspicious. These techniques are common camera tricks used to fool the eye, and the consumer. When a company claims their product has a "98% success rate", look for documentation of their clinical study. If the clinical information they provide is vague, or even missing altogether, be wary.

If you follow these steps during your treatment, your chances of success are excellent. One last tip  - any successful regimen requires dedication. Whatever the treatment is, carefully follow the instructions from your doctor or the product manufacturer.

Hair Loss Treatment - Hair Loss: Biotin is Food for Your Hair

Hair Loss Treatment - Hair Loss: Biotin is Food for Your Hair
Biotin Is Food Your Hair
"Biotin plays a significant part in the prevention of hair loss"

Keywords: hair loss, nutrition, biotin, vitamins

Biotin plays a significant part in the prevention of hair loss. Most nutritionists agree that biotin is one of the important vitamins for supporting hair growth. It is also commonly advised to take biotin to supplement medical treatments such Minoxidil or Propecia.

A deficiency of biotin may cause hair to become frail and unhealthy, and hair breakage, which may result in hair loss. Biotin also keeps your skin and nails healthy as well as being an important element of new hair growth. Supplements are sometimes needed to return biotin levels to normal, but it is recommended to include biotin regularly in your diet. Two foods containing good quantities of biotin are liver and egg yolks. You would have to eat thousands of calories worth daily to get enough for your hair needs, which is why I would also suggest biotin supplements.

Foods full of biotin include brewer's yeast, green peas, oats, soybeans, walnuts, sunflower seeds, green peas, bulgur and brown rice. In terms of the egg yolks, your body's ability to digest and assimilate biotin decreases with high intake levels of protein. Biotin binds easily to proteins, making it unavailable to your body, which in turn causes biotin deficiency and hair loss.  Try to steer clear of raw eggs in your diet, and cut down on protein powders and bars. Use one of the many shampoos that contain biotin and silica.

Additionally, those with type A blood don't have the ability to fully absorb B vitamins. Biotin is classified as a Vitamin B, so if you have Type A blood, adding higher doses of 5-8 grams twice daily will be needed to help prevent hair loss. At this time, there are no known side effects at this dosage level.

People suffering from heartburn, acid reflux, or GERD and who are taking antacids may absorb biotin less and hair loss may occur as a result. Therefore watch your use of over-the-counter antacids if you are worried about hair loss.

So your losing your hair? Feels like its the end of the world does it? Well I'm here to give you some good news and some bad news. We will start with the bad first and that is unfortunately hair loss isn't the only annoying change that goes with breaking into the golden years. Other changes include erectile dysfunction, swelling prostates, urinary symptoms that go with large prostates, decreasing time in stage 4 sleep, and the list goes on and on. The way I see it going bald is the least of your concerns.

Ok so the good news is that in today's age of pharmacy, there are several great options to solve many of the above mentioned problems, including hair loss. So you don't have to just accept your genetically determined fate. Not only are there good pharmalogical options but the semi surgical options of hair implants are always improving.

So what causes hair loss otherwise known as male pattern baldness? Well it is in the genes as mentioned above. The rumor is that it runs through the maternal line. So if your mom's dad is bald than you'd better start getting ready. That isn't the whole story though. It turns out that there is an enzyme that changes testosterone to dihyroxytestosterone or DHT. DHT which is produced in greater amounts and for which some are more sensitive to acts in many different ways including the root of the hair and actually acts as a toxin to the hair permanently ending the ability of the hair producing proginator cells to continue growing hair.

One of the best treatments is a drug called finasteride or propecia which inhibits the enzyme, alpha 1 reductase, that catalyzes the reduction of testosterone to DHT. If begun early enough it can prevent (or signigicantly slow) hair loss. This drug has been shown to be wonderfully efficacious at relatively low doses, which limits the side effects to a tolerable minimum. One problem with the drug that has recently been made much of in the media is the olympic ban on propecia. It turns out that it can and has been used as a coverup for anabolic steroid performance enhancing drugs. So a significant issue that fortunately effects only a very small minority of balding men.

As mentioned there is also the implant option which for a while seemed like it made you look worse than just having no hair. The corn rows weren't what most guys were going for and were any thing but natural. Now however you really have a hard time noticing the difference unless you are around a guy and all of a sudden they have a head of hair that didn't use to be there. So like I said, compared to the other problems that will eventually crop up, hair loss is tame. But lest we suffer in the looks department fortunately there are good options to stem the "disease."

If you are beginning to lose your hair, while looking for a solution, you may feel too embarrassed to go out and socialize. Even a short trip to the neighbourhood store may make you feel uncomfortable as you fear what others may say about your appearnance. Using cosmetic solutions for good cover up of your thinning scalp can help you still get up and go.

The first way in which you can still look presentable is through hair loss concealers. There are a variety of these that are easily available. One common hair loss concealer helps in building fibers. These are tiny fibers that are placed in the area where the scalp area is losing hair. You get the appearance of thicker looking hair in those particular areas. You can also use a masking lotion, hair thickener or hair fattener in order to give your hair more volume and look thicker throughout the day.

Another consideration that you can “cover up” is to simply change your hairstyle. Your hairs are built to naturally turn and grow in a particular way. If you are losing hair in one area, choose a style that can help you cover the scalp area. Having an excellent beautician or hair lovely living will help in determining which style can help you achieve this.

Different types of shampoo are also available that will help you get the effect that you want. For instance, one type of shampoo can enhance volume of your hair and will provide your scalp with extra nutrients in order to stimulate growth. This essentially boosts the appearance of your remaining hair while speeding up the growth of new hair.

For cosmetics that will help you to improve your appearance to cover up your hair loss, please ensure that the ingredients in them are proven to help and that they do not have any negative side effects. Having an idea of ingredients that help in hair growth or prevent hair loss definitely helps. Another way of doing research is to read product reviews for effectiveness.

Cosmetics for hair loss is highly recommended if you are conscious about your hair loss and having feelings of negativity about the way you look. Do explore the options of cosmetic solutions as this can well mean getting rid of your depression and getting a life, while waiting for your new hair to grow!

Hair loss is a misfortune that happens to many men and women. It often occurs in aging or when the body is suffering from some type of deficiency. It can be embarrassing at first and cause a person to withdraw from friends or family until they regain confidence.

There are natural herbal supplements available for almost any need including natural weight loss products (i.e. Hoodia), natural supplements for helping high blood pressure, herbal cures for arthritis, and so forth. Fortunately, there are also natural ways to help your hair grow to be healthy and strong and to prevent hair loss. Many people are turning to Provillus, the herbal natural remedy for hair loss, and enjoying new strong hair once again.

Benefits of Provillus

Provillus offers many benefits to those who are plagued with hair loss. It has been tested and proven to bring better results than similar natural supplements or medications. Provillus consists of natural ingredients and is void of any harmful chemicals or substances. Also, it can be purchased without a prescription. No major side effects have been reported with Provillus.

Other benefits include quick results (usually within a few weeks), conveniently available online at discount prices, and it offers benefits for both men and women.

Provillus for Men and Women

Another major benefit of Provillus is it works well for both men and women, but in slightly different ways. For men, Provillus naturally blocks a male hormone called DHT (dihydrotestostrone). This hormone is the cause of hair loss in many cases because it causes the hair follicles to become finer and thinner over time until the hair is completely lost. While blocking DHT, Provillus is also supplementing the body with much-needed nutrients for growing healthy, strong hair.

Provillus is also available for women. Unfortunately, some women will begin to lose their hair after menopause. Many hair loss products are geared to help men only, but Provillus for women consists of a slightly different formula than the one for men. It supplies nutrition that gives life back to dead hair follicles. It also seeds the scalp to provide a proper growing environment for new, healthy hairs to grow.

Whether you want to grow new, strong hairs to cover up bald spots or start early to prevent baldness, Provillus can help! You can shop online for Provillus, find helpful herb information, and search for other natural health products or natural weight loss supplements. Enjoy gorgeous hair once again!

Hair loss is one of the most common problems, and also the most difficult to tackle. While healthy hair indicates good general health, hair loss can be an indicator of a deeper internal health problem. Hair loss in women has been attributed to several factors till now: stress, lack of iron or anemia, condition of the scalp, condition of vital internal organs like the kidneys, liver, thyroid etc., emotional disturbances, menstrual problems, illness or lack of essential vitamins and other nutrients in the body etc.

Hair loss generally indicates a deficiency in vitamin B1, vitamin C, lysine and iron. Vitamin C’s antioxidant properties help to make skin and hair healthy by aiding body metabolism, and converting fat and carbohydrates into energy. It helps in the development of healthy collagen that binds tissues together. Hence it is effective in preventing breakage and split ends. Vitamin C is present in good quantities in Citrus fruits, strawberries, pineapple, tomatoes, green peppers, potatoes and most dark green vegetables. A daily dose of 60 mg is recommended for good health. Vitamin B1 or Thiamine aids in protein building and thus makes the hair healthy, giving it volume, shine and a good texture. This is ensured by providing nutrition to the scalp. Other vitamins that help to prevent hair loss in women are: other Vitamin B complex vitamins like Biotin, Inositol, Niacin and vitamin E. Minerals like iron, zinc, magnesium are also effective in preventing hair loss. The most common food-based sources of these vitamins are: citrus fruits, green vegetables, fruits like pineapple, strawberries, kiwi, potatoes, green peppers, vegetable oils, soybean, raw seeds, dried beans, wheat germ oil, brewer’s yeast, whole grains, eggs, liver, rice, milk, fish, turkey, chicken and red meat. Other products found to be efficient in combating hair loss are Saw Palmetto, nettle root, pumpkin, gotu kola, eleuthero, Uva-Ursi, Muria Puama and others.

There are hundreds of products in the market today that promise to prevent hair loss. These products are generally prescribed by experts though some over the counter drugs are also available. There are companies that specialize exclusively in the production of hair loss drugs. Information about these products is also available on the Internet on the websites of these companies. However, it is better to consult a physician to know the exact cause of hair loss before using any of these products.

Hair Loss Women - Female Hair Loss Treatments and Why Hair Loss Is Different On Venus
Female Hair Loss Treatment
"Learn about the differences between male and female hair loss, and why female hair loss treatments thus differ. These differences reflect both the physical disparities between men and women, as well as social factors like dieting."

Keywords: female hair loss treatments, female hair loss, hair loss

Female hair loss treatments often differ to men's, for a number of reasons. The main prescription hair loss treatment for men, the drug propecia, is generally not as effective in women, although an Italian study seemed to show some promise with it.

The study followed the experience of 37 women who were given 2.5 mg of propecia a day, as well as the contraceptive pill. As propecia can cause deformities in the development of a male fetus' sex organs, propecia cannot be given to women who have a chance of conceiving, or who are pregnant.

Results were measured by taking photos of the women's heads, and using a technique called computerized light videodermoscopy to measure the density of hairs. Women tend to have thinning hair when they suffer hair loss, and don't often go completely bald.

After 12 months of treatment, 23 women (62%) had improvements in their hair thickness. Those women who had most hair loss down the middle of the top of the head, showed the most improvement. Only one woman was found to have worse hair loss.

But more studies on propecia as a female hair loss treatment need to be conducted before it is given the green light as a treatment option. Not only is there the issue of fetal damage, making it a risky drug for women, but this study is not conclusive as evidence that it will actually work for all, or most, women.

Generally, women are given topical treatments like minoxidil to encourage hair growth. Minoxidil has drawbacks in that it has to be applied to the scalp twice a day, and some women are allergic to it. Unfortunately, scientists have not come up with a hair loss medication that will definitely work for women.

Another reason female hair loss treatments differ to men's is that the causes of female hair loss often vary. Hair loss in women is often associated with hormonal changes like menopause, discontinuing birth control pills, and after pregnancy. There is a 3 month delay before signs of hair loss will appear, so if you're noticing hair loss now, it was probably triggered 3 months ago. And it can take another 3 months before new growth starts to show.

Another factor in female hair loss is excessive dieting or sudden weight loss. Hair requires nutrients to grow just as any other part of the body does, What we eat can not only affect how shiny and healthy our hair appears, but also hair loss. Whilst men can suffer hair loss from similar weight loss, women tend to be more involved with extreme diets than men.

Female hair loss can also be an indicator of a medical condition, such as an underactive thyroid gland, diabetes, anemia, and PCOS. It's a good idea to get these possible issued ruled out by a doctor first. If they are at the root of the hair loss problem, no amount of hair loss medications or topical treatments or hair vitamins is going to stop hair loss until that is treated.

Hair loss that is caused by physical or emotional stress generally resolves itself when the stressor is dealt with, without any female hair loss treatment. But because of the hair's growth cycles, it can take 6 months before any improvement is noticed.

Did you know that female hair loss is part of the lives of more than 25 million women in the United States alone? Most of them are not using any female hair loss treatment and only few are aware of the existing hair loss treatments. In almost all the cases Female hair loss could be avoided, stopped and new hair growth could be stimulated.

Female pattern hair loss is similar to what is known as the "male pattern hair loss" for men. It is caused by an increasing amount of a chemical called DHT which usually occurs in the menopause age. As opposed to men, women usually suffer from thinning hair around the forehead and crown of their scalp, and not a complete baldness.

There are several available treatments for female hair loss of this kind:

Natural female hair loss treatment – There are several natural products that showed good results in stopping female hair loss like Advecia and Revivogen. These products are made up of hair growth vitamins, herbs and minerals and have no side effects.

Female hair loss products – The most popular hair loss product for women is Rogaine. Rogaine is the only FDA approved female hair loss treatment. Its' main component is called Minoxidil which is a DHT inhibitor.

Other less common female hair loss treatments like wigs, hair thickeners and hair transplants are not recommended.

Another kind of female hair loss is a temporary hair loss. This kind could be a result of metabolic problems during pregnancy, a severe stress condition, chemotherapy, high fever or infections. The treatment in these cases would be stopping the medical problems as soon as possible. This would also result the hair regrowth.

If you do not suffer from female hair loss we congratulate you and advice you to use regularly a shampoo, a conditioner and moisturize and to maintain a healthy diet. If you start losing your hair do not ignore it. You can stop your hair loss. Good luck.

As a female, if you are facing thinning and losing hair, you are probably pretty stressed by it.  However, you will not be worrying and causing more hair to drop once you understand some facts about female hair loss

You see, in many cases, female hair loss is just a temporary occurance and hence, finding a hair loss solution to it is relatively easy.

Androgenetic alopecia is the hereditary form of baldness that affects 50 percent of men, and some women after 40. Female hair loss usually starts after menopause although it can begin earlier. The main reason for this is that estrogen levels decline. Hormonal changes cause hair to thin.

It is comforting to note that other than androgenetic alopecia, the most common cause of hair loss in women, is a result of metabolic and hormonal changes.  Thus, the hair loss is usually temporary.  Also, unlike men, women rarely become totally bald.  However, what females generally experience is the thinning of their hair.

For example, in the case of pregnancy, hair loss is temporary and should stop about 6 months after birth. When a woman is pregnant, a large amount of oestrogen is produced causing the hair follicles to go into their growth phase. Once the baby is born, the woman’s hormonal balance is restored.  The reverse now happens with the hair follicles going into a hair loss phase.  While nothing much can be done to prevent hair loss during this period, applying hair tonic to hasten hair re-growth can be a helpful solution.

Crash diets leading to rapid weight loss over a short period of time prompts excessive hair loss.

Physical and emotional stress can cause hair loss but this usually only occurs after a prolonged period of time and in extreme cases. Once stress levels are restored to normal levels, hair loss should stop.  Thus, a good hair loss solution is to find ways to reduce stress!

Certain drugs can also cause hair to shed. The most common medical treatment that causes hair loss is chemotherapy. The drug medication attacks the hair cells, causing hair loss from the scalp. Certain prescription drugs (for thyroid hormone deficiency, diabetes and lupus) and dieting supplements are also causes of hair loss.  Once these drug medications are stopped, the hair loss problem should disappear.

Other stresses to the hair may include frequent dyeing and chemicals eg. perming solutions applied to the hair. Generally, healthy hair can undergo these treatments without showing signs of stress, if they are not done too often.  But if hair is not allowed a chance to recover from the constant application of hair chemicals, then it becomes brittle and starts to break off.  Hair loss treatment products to help strengthen the follicles should help when applied to the scalp.

Once you understand what is happening to your hair, then seek out the right hair loss solution.  In most cases, if the cause is temporary, then you can be assured that your problem will pass with the right remedy actions.  However, for the more serious cases, do seek the professional help of a licensed dermatologist for a complete diagnosis and treatment plan.

Hair loss affects approximately 50 million men and women in the United States, but few people understand how and why they are losing their hair. Although genetic dispositions contribute, it's primarily the lack of epidermal health that suppresses normal hair and skin production.   Through out Karen's 25 year career, clients complained of itchy scalp conditions and pattern hair loss.  There had to be  natural, non-invasive treatment alternatives to hydro cortisone creams, hair grafts and hair transplant surgery.  Hair loss products, weaves and supplements have shown little or no results.  She was determined to find a solution.  Karen had an extraordinary epiphany. Why no one had considered the obvious reason of poor scalp health as the underlying cause is anyones guess. She discovered pattern hair loss involved more than just heredity.  Scalp & Skin Works has revealed the crucial step and logical solution for pattern hair loss and undesirable scalp conditions.  The problem.  Pattern hair loss is multifaceted and more complicated than she, and obviously everyone else realized.  The abundance and over production of excess skin layers, perspiration and impurities like sticky sebum clogs, and follicle parasites all contribute to hair loss.  The solution. Recovery begins, by detoxifying the scalp, restoring proper hygiene and fostering healthy environments conducive for normal scalp and skin growth.  “Clients are able to actually see their scalp condition, and watch the removal of impurities with the assistance of a cosmetic microscope and monitor as the clinician works. It's an interactive process.  Most are amazed and fascinated at what they see, eyes glues to the screen.  Others get grossed out and just don't look”.  Customers are very pleased with their results. “I had given up.  I had tried other hair loss treatments and did not want to do transplant surgery.  Then System Scalp & Skin showed me that I could re-grow my own hair through their scalp hygiene process.  It wasn’t long and I could actually see new hair growing in.   My hair is now getting thicker and my “halo” is shrinking. System Scalp & Skin works!”  Kevin Buchan, Oil Industry Lobbyist, Cameron Park CA.

This is the technical meaning of “healthy fat” Your body needs these fats to function properly, yet it doesn't produce it on it's own.

Flax seed oils is the form in which the oil was extracted from the seed. Omega-3 fatty acids which contain the majority of flax seed health benefits are very susceptible to heat.

The first time you see flax seeds you were probably, like “ok, they look like sesame seeds, who are you trying to fool?” They may look like sesame seeds, but boy do they pack in a lot of nutrition.

A comprehensive approach to treating cognitive disorders should include foods and supplements that benefit the overall health of brain cells. These include omega-3 fatty acids found in flaxseed and fish. In one study men with prostate cancer who ate an ounce of ground flaxseeds (almost three tablespoons) a day as part of a very-low-fat diet were able to slow the progress of their cancers between the time they were diagnosed and the time of surgery.

Do Traditional Hair Loss Remedies Have Any Relevance Today?

Could it be possible that our ancestors got it right with some of their traditional hair loss remedies? Folklore tells us they certainly went to great lengths to find solutions to thinning hair. Although each culture had its own approach influenced by local conditions, there seem to have been many examples of common practices. Nettles, for example, formed an important element of traditional hair loss remedies throughout the world.

The samples outlined here have been sourced from the very informative work "Hair Loss Prevention Through Natural Remedies" by Peters et al. This book provides a wealth of information on this topic and can be easily purchased through Amazon or other good booksellers.

Rosemary Solution - this herb crops up frequently in herbal texts for its ability to cleanse the scalp and stimulate the hair root. Here is one recipe that features rosemary as its core ingredient.

Recipe: boil rosemary, sage, peach leaf, nettle and burdock in water. Strain and use to wash hair daily.

Apple Cider Vinegar - this is mentioned often in folk remedies for hair loss. It is believed to exert a normalizing effect on the scalp's oil glands and has a strong cleansing effect.

But you should be drinking a lot of water after consuming the seeds.

Omega-3 fatty acids are long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (18-22 carbon atoms in chain length) with the first of many double bonds beginning with the third carbon atom (when counting from the methyl end of the fatty acid molecule). Read on for more details on flax seed benefits.

The effects of flaxseed on blood glucose levels are not clear, although hyperglycemic effects have been reported in one case series. However, this should not deter you from getting healthier with flax seed oil!

The primary sources of omega-6 are corn, soy, canola, safflower and sunflower oil; these oils are overabundant in the typical diet, which explains our excess omega-6 levels.

But that should come as no big surprise, since any highly unsaturated oil will do that, particularly if substituted for saturated fats.

Method: Part hair into sections. Apply two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar directly to the scalp with a moistened cotton ball. Allow between fifteen minutes and three hours before shampooing. Essential Oils - essential oils distilled from plants have long been recognized for their ability to improve scalp circulation and encourage cell generation. Amongst the most useful are cedarwood, clary sage, eucalyptus, lavender and rosemary. Method: mix ten drops of essential oil with one ounce of carrier oil (jojoba or olive oil). Massage it into the scalp for a minimum of fifteen minutes before shampooing.

Cayenne Pepper Hair Tonic - the ability of this herb to irritate the skin, increase blood flow and stimulate cell division is well known.

Recipe: mix four ounces of cayenne pepper with one pint of one hundred proof vodka or pure alcohol diluted with 20 percent distilled water. Let it stand for two weeks, shaking the mixture once each day. Strain through several layers of fine cloth until the mixture is free of pepper. Once or twice a day, rub a small amount onto the thinning areas of the scalp.

In this Omega-3 benefits and facts section you will learn the basics about omega-3 essential fatty acids (EFA) from fish oils and their function in our bodies.

HAir Loss Remedies - Do Natural Hair Loss Remedies Have Any Real Relevance?
Hair Loss Remedies
"This article examines whether natural hair loss treatments have anything tangible to offer today."

Keywords: hair loss, alopecia, baldness

The effectiveness of modern hair loss treatments is clear for all to see, but many people simply prefer not to use strong chemicals or non-natural substances.

If you fall into this category, does this mean you'll just have to accept an ever-decreasing head of hair? The answer to this is an unequivocal NO!

Many natural hair loss remedies, both traditional and contemporary, have shown their worth in reducing and reversing hair loss. They are also perceived as being free from side effects and even deliver additional health benefits.

Why then, don't we hear a lot more about these natural hair loss remedies? Simply because claims of cures cannot be made without FDA approval, and obtaining the FDA seal of approval involves lengthy and expensive scientific research that only major companies can afford. Even the biggest companies could not recoup the costs of such a process as no-one can control the rights to common natural substances such as basic foods and vitamins.

The big question however is, do natural hair loss remedies work? Firstly, hair growth at root level is a living part of the body that depends on sound nutrition, just like any other part of the body. The importance of vitamins, minerals and other nutritional elements in maintaining healthy hair cannot be disputed.

Secondly, the role of herbs and plants in treating numerous ailments is receiving increased recognition after years of neglect, and hair loss is no exception. Many herbal remedies for both internal and external use are offering new hope to people suffering from premature hair loss.

Thirdly, traditional hair loss remedies may still have something to offer. Ancient literature and folklore reveal that our ancestors went to great lengths to treat thinning hair. Some of the more acceptable traditional approaches are now being incorporated into many potential treatment regimes.

"Hair loss and hair thinning occurs because not enough hair nutrients reach the hair roots.  Here are some natural remedies that you can use to increase the blood circulation to your scalp to keep the hair you have or to stop hair thinning"

Keywords: Hair loss, hair, blood circulation

In one of my other articles, I revealed that plugged hair follicles are one of the main conditions that start hair thinning and baldness.  The other condition is insufficient blood circulation in the scalp.

When you don't have enough blood circulating in your scalp, then your hair roots don't get enough nutrients to support the life and strength of your hair in the follicle.

The hardest place to get good circulation is at the top of your scalp.  It is the furthest point away from your heart.  It is the area that is less stimulated.  The sides of your head are stimulated as you sleep and move your head around the pillow.  That is one reason why most people still have hair on the sides of their head while the top is completely bald.

So what the ways you can increase blood circulation to the top of your head?

Here are two ways to do it.

Use herbal remedies to increase body and scalp blood circulation
Use hot and cold hydrotherapy

Use herbal remedies to increase body and scalp blood circulation

There are several herbs that provide increase circulation to all parts of the body.  Two good standby remedies are ginkgo biloba and cayenne pepper.  Use ginkgo biloba as indicated on the label. Ginkgo increases the blood circulation in the brain and all parts of the head.

Use Cayenne pepper in the formulation made of Heart Foods Company.  This Cayenne strengthens the heart giving it the ability to pump blood to the furthest reaches of the body.

There are two other herbal formulations that have recently come out to provide increase circulation to all parts of the body - vital cell and Arjuna.

Vital cell is a Chinese herbal combination that is available in the US. It is a powerful remedy that helps to re-establish small veins that have closed off.  This creates more pathways for blood to go where it is needed and where it once went.

Arjuna is another herb that comes from another country - India.  It is now readily available in the US.  Arjuna is the latest herb to be exposed as good for preventing and reducing arthrosclerosis.  By reducing narrowing of the arteries in the head, strokes can be avoided and a side benefit is the scalp get more blood.

Use Hot and Cold Hydrotherapy

I have talked about this natural way of bringing more blood into the scalp.  It's a technique I use every time I shower.  At the end of your shower, run hot water over your head for 20 seconds, turn the hot water off and allow the cold water to run over your head for 20 seconds.

Do this hot-cold water technique three - four times and end with the cold water.  This technique allow blood to move in and out of the lower layers of your scalp giving you a blood massage and providing more nutrients to your hair roots.  As a side benefit, you are bringing in more blood to your brain giving you more brain power as long as use this technique.

Use herbs to improve you blood circulation to your scalp and use hot-cold water to blood massage your scalp.  By doing this, you will find less hair loss and you may even start to see some hair growth.

Hair Loss Tips - Determing Which is the Best Hair Loss Product

Hair Loss Tips - Determing Which is the Best Hair Loss Product
Hair Treatment for Men and Women
"Here we give you a tour of the many hair loss products available to you, giving enough information on each to enable you to decide which ones you will try in order to cure your hair loss problem."

You have probably asked yourself time and time again, what is the best hair loss product available?  That question was asked on a Google answers site, and the experts answer?  They stated that there is no answer to that question.

They are correct in that there is no general answer to that question, but there is an answer to the alternative question, “What is the best hair loss product for me?”  It’s still not an easy question to answer though, and you’ll probably need to find the answer via good old-fashioned trial and error methods.

Home Remedies

There are many kinds of home remedies for hair loss.  I’m pretty sure some of them can be disregarded — like rubbing cow manure on your head — but some of them probably do help some people.  Here are a few of the more promising home remedies for hair loss:

§ Rinse your hair with apple cider vinegar and sage tea.
§ A variety of oils have been used—almond oil, castor oil, olive oil, and amla oil.  Usually the oil is warmed, which will at least feel good and make your hair shiny.
§ Applying coconut milk or aloe vera gel to your scalp.
§ Applying a masque of honey and egg yolk to your hair and scalp.

All of these concoctions should be washed out (except the apple cider and sage tea rinse) after use.
Hair Care Products

The best hair loss product for you could be as simple as a good shampoo or conditioner.  Some people swear by Nizoral shampoo, and say it puts an end to hair loss.  Some people love Mane and Tail shampoo and conditioner, because it makes their hair look and feel fuller and thicker.  Your hairdresser may have some suggestions about hair care products that help you with your hair loss.

Herbal Remedies

Some people believe that the best hair loss product is an herbal remedy.  There are a number of herbal lotions and potions as well as nutritional supplements specially formulated to treat hair loss.  An herbalist may be able to recommend the best products for your particular type of hair loss.  Here are a few herbal remedies that seem to help:

§ Ginko biloba
§ Green tea
§ A Chinese herb called “he shou wu”
§ Pygeum
§ Aloe vera
§ Saw palmetto
§ Stinging nettle

Some of these are taken in pill form and some are made into preparations that you rub onto your scalp.  Some (like, for instance, stinging nettles) can cause a reaction, so use all herbal preparations with care.

Minoxidil (Rogain®)

A lot of people consider that this is the best hair loss product.  It’s available without a prescription at any pharmacy, and it works for a lot of people.  Minoxidil helps both men and women to grow more hair.  Remember, though, that as soon as you quit taking minoxidil, your hair will start to fall out again.

Prescription Medications

A prescription medication, such as Propecia, could be the ideal hair loss product for you.  You need to see the doctor to get it, but that’s a good thing, because she will conduct a check-up to see if there is some underlying cause to your hair loss that can be taken care of permanently.

Wigs, Rugs and Weaves

It could turn to be that the best hair loss product for you is a cover up of some kind.  This is especially true when the hair loss is temporary, such as when your hair falls out while undergoing chemotherapy

There are a lot of options available to you to treat hair loss, but only you can decide which is the best hair loss product for you.  Test a few things, and when you find something that works for you, stick with it.  It may not work for everybody, but the important thing here is that you will have found the best hair loss product for you.

Let's face it, hair loss is not a welcome change at any age. With more than 70 percent of men experiencing male pattern baldness at some point in their lives, many of them seek a remedy.

Hair loss treatments come in many varieties, but only a few work. Possibly the most reliable and permanent solution to this problem is hair transplantation - a minor surgical procedure done under local anesthesia.

Regardless of a man's age or amount of baldness, the latest techniques in hair transplantation can provide what hair loss sufferers want the most - a confident, more youthful appearance.

Bill Wellington, an 83-year-old retired CIA economist and Army Air Force Pilot originally from Detroit, first started noticing his hair loss at 14 or 15. In college, he secretly studied hair loss on his own and even talked to a hair consultant, hoping to find a remedy. Despite these attempts, he continued to lose his hair.

One college hockey teammate remarked that Wellington refused to wet his hair in the shower for fear of losing it.

" I always carried that element of personal insecurity that surfaced when I prepared for work or showered after hockey. It was the receding hair line," Wellington said.

When he fought in World War II, he used his helmet and cap to conceal his problem, but it stayed on his mind. Years later, after he left the Army and had a successful career and a loving family, his hair loss continued to bother him.

The biggest problem, he says, was his loss of self confidence which stemmed from his baldness. For instance, while taking a family photo, his children commented, "Hey Dad, you're really getting bald."

"The old comic reply, 'hair today, gone tomorrow' got a chuckle but did little to bolster my ego," Wellington said.

After attending a free seminar on hair transplantation, he decided to get treatment from the doctors at Elliott & True, a medical practice specializing in hair transplantation, and he has been satisfied ever since. He still plays organized hockey for a Maryland seniors team called the Geri-Hatricks, which he named. He says younger players always compliment his healthy-looking hair.

At the office of doctors Robert H. True and Robert J. Dorin, patients from 25 to 80 get their own natural, growing hair back thanks to the latest hair transplant technology.

"The results are quite impressive nowadays, and they seem to have the same positive effect on a patient's well-being, regardless of his age," True said .

Hair loss is very common, however it is very difficult for many men to deal with.  Hair loss can affect a person’s looks and self esteem.  If you are losing your hair there are two main treatments that have been proven effective.  They are topical treatments and a drug that works via pill form.

Topical treatments include Rogaine, which has the effective ingredient MinoxodilMinoxodil has been proven effective, but does not grow your entire hair back.  Depending on where the loss of hair is located, you can see some moderate regrowth from MinoxodilMinoxodil is a solution that is topical; you apply it to your scalp twice a day.  It is usually inexpensive, costing about $20 per month.

Propecia is a pill that can be taken by men experiencing hair loss; it is proven effective and usually works better than Minoxodil.  You take the pill once a day and can significantly regrow your hair or slow down how much hair you lose.  However it is not a miracle drug and won’t regrow all your hair back.  So if you are losing your hair, look into these two possible treatments.
