Snoop Dogg escapes jail

American rapper Snoop Dogg has pleaded no contest to gun and drug charges, escaping a possible prison sentence.
He was arrested in October 2006 after police found a gun and cannabis in his car.
Appearing in a Californian Court, Snoop Dogg, born Calvin Broadus, was given five years probation and 800 hours of community service.
Last month the rapper was denied entry to the UK to perform with fellow rapper Sean “P Diddy” Combs.
The ban followed an incident at Heathrow Airport in April 2006, when Snoop Dogg was arrested on charges of violent disorder and starting a brawl, after a fight erupted when some people in his 30-strong entourage were refused entry to the British Airways first-class lounge.
